#OWNIT Summit at Georgetown University Rocked!
It was a chilly damp day in Washington, DC, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the 800 plus young women attending the 3rd annual OWNit Summit — put on by students for students .. and attracting some of the smartest young women in business to speak to them. I headed a panel about on-line media … and included were Carla Zanoni from the Wall Street Journal’s digital group; Rachel Gogel from the NYTimes, Louisa Spring from LA who is creating virtual reality content like crazy– she had me watch a rugby game through the VR goggles — I felt like I was about to get tackled (is that what you call it in rugby????) — amazing tool that is just beginning to be used. Others included Bridget Todd of Medium.com; Morgan Gress from the startup incubator http://www.1776.vc/ and seen above Amani Al-Khatahtbeh who started the blog http://themuslimgirl.com/ a couple of years ago and has watched it soar in readership and credibility. As an older woman, it was fun to hear everyone’s challenges and dreams .. and get an opportunity to deliver a little sage advice. Its a different world than the one I started in back in the “golden” days of television — but at the heart of what each of these women does is storytelling — a skill as old as mankind and as important today as it was then. I am impressed with their abilities, and urged them to keep that story telling alive!
